Honeywell Power Supply for F50 F52 with W8600E Wire Harness

Setting Ionizer Current Jumper P5

The powerbox needs to be configured for the size of the air cleaner: 12½x20, 16x20, 16x25, 20x20, 20x25. A jumper on the power supply board needs to be set based on the overall size of your collector cells. This jumper (P5) sets the ionizer current. The P8 jumper drops the voltage from 8150v to 7500v for ozone reduction.

ByPass Air Flow Sensor Feature

If the air cleaner does not have an internal AFS (air flow sensor), then this feature needs to be bypassed. The power supply will not turn on unless the AFS is bypassed.

Connect the two pins together labeled 'bypass AFS" on J3 using a jumper; or to permanently bypass the AFS, cut the R16 resistor.

Power Supply Ground Choke Installation

The Honeywell power supply kit comes with an additional ground wire choke. Basicly the ground choke is connected in conjuction with your existing powercord ground wire and the metal chassis. This component is essential to protect the power supply. Earth/ground line choke eliminates ground loop frequencies. This prevents fault in your unit caused by ground conductor loops and power surge.

F52F - Determining Series One or Two

W8600F Series TWO	Choosing a replacement power supply is dependent on the series. If you do NOT have the optional wall mounted Remote Performance Indicator (W8600), the series does not matter. F52F Series 1 was manufactured from 94 to 97. The Series 1 chassis has a 4 connector terminal strip that would be used for the optional W8600E. The Series 2 was manufactured 98 thru 06. The Series 2 chassis has only a blank terminal strip. The terminal strip would be included with the optional W8600F. If you are replacing an F52F power supply that does not have a W8600 and not sure of the series, we recommend choosing the series one power supply. The series one will include a W8600E terminal strip and daughter card that will not be needed if you have a series two.
W8600E Series One

Series One or Series Two

Use the Series One power supply if your current F52F has the terminal strip for the W8600E. The terminal strip on the F52F made from 1994 to 1997 have pin connectors not compatible with the current power supply. Thus the Series One replacement power supply also includes the terminal strip and wire harness.

If you are replacing a power supply that has an existing W8600F, then order the Series Two power supply and reuse the existing terminal strip and harness. You also reuse the small daughter card that plugs in to the power supply. These items were originally supplied with the W8600F.

If your power box has a terminal strip with nothing connected because you are not using a W8600E or W8600F, then use the Series One power supply. Otherwise the Series Two does not have the terminal strip and the old terminal strip will be left to dangle.

The W8600F was introduced in 1998 and was originally available in white or taupe, but the taupe was discontinued mid 2006. The W8600F is now only available in white.

Though the W8600E was replaced by the W8600F in 1998, the W8600E was available as a replacement part until 2004. We no longer have any W8600E left.

The PS1202C00 is Compatible with the W8600

The PS1202C00 power supply kit provides the connection for the W8600 remote indicator. The PS1202C00 is for a power box with the terminal strip as in photo below on right. The PS1202C00 has a w8600e daughter card and includes the wiring harness and terminal strip for the W8600E.

If your powerbox has an unused terminal strip because you are not using the W8600, then you can use this PS1202C00 and internally not connect the unused terminal strip.

The PS1202C00 power supply provides a connection for the W8600. The PS1202C00 power supply was made for a power box that has the terminal strip. The 240v power supply is no longer available. See the transformer 203365A for a 240v retrofit or PS2402B12J (powerbox for F50E-A).

Power Supply Bench Test

Here is our procedure to test the power supply. Warning high voltage shock can cause death.

The power supply has the option to disable the air flow sensor (see bypass AFS section). The AFS can be temporary disabled for testing by borrowing jumper from J8 to connection J3 position marked "bypass AFS". This power supply does not require the air flow sensor to operate. The photo below shows an older power supply that just needs 120v to power a cell.

Connect 120 vac to terminals P1 and P2. Check the following outputs with respect to chassis ground.

Terminal P3 will output 8.2k vdc
Terminal P4 will be 4.2k vdc

Since high voltage meters are not common, Honeywell provides the neon lamp as reliable voltage indicator. If the high voltage output falls below spec the neon lamp voltage will drop out.

Shorting P3 or P4 to ground has the same effect as the test button. The short will temporarily cause the neon indicator to go out. By tapping P4 to ground you should be able to draw an arc 1/32". Tapping P3 to ground can produce a larger arc near 3/16". These tests are with out the cells connected, the arc will be twice the length with cells connected.

Evolution of the F50 F300 Power Supply

The F50A was introduced in 1972 and has evolved in to the current F300. The same collector cells that were used in the F50A are still used in the F300. Thus variations of the current F300 power supply are used as the replacements for the prior F50 models.

In 1972 the F50A had an analog power supply as shown bottom-left. Then in 1987 the F50E was released, The F50E was the same as the F50A but with a new electronic power supply that offered two new optional features. The F50E offers an optional remote indicator and an air flow switch.

In 1993 the F50F was introduced with an all new chassis. The F50F now has all the electronics, from a 120v cord to the contacts for the cells built-in to the power box. Now a simple power box swap was a sure fix.

In 1998 the F50F Series 2 was released with a new optional LCD remote indicator that replaced the prior LED indicator. Also the internal power box wiring was improved with molex plug connectors. The connectors simplified manufacturing and power box repairs.

In 2000 the F300 was introduced that was identical to the F50F but the paint color was changed to blue. The F300 now has post filters that will also slide in to the F50F.

In 2012 Honeywell radically redesigned their power supply. They are very flexible and universal for multiple applications. Also, they seem to have better power surge protection along with ground loop frequency insolator.The new power supply design have the series one LED + AFS connection as well as the series two connections.

240 Volt Power Supply Retrofit

Honeywell has discontinued the 240 volt replacement power supply for the models with an air flow sensor.

The power supply can be retrofit with a drop down 240v to 120v tranformer. The honeywell 203365A converstion kit can be used when the power supplied is 240v.

The F50A F50E 240 volt complete power box is available. The 240 volt replacement power box for the two cell F50A F50E is the PS2402B12J.
