Honeywell F50A & F50E Parts - Size 16 x 25
Where is my F50E/A Model Number
Order parts based on your model number. The F50 model number is located on the inside of the door. Otherwise order parts based on the overall size of your cells. The F50E came in 5 sizes. The smallest model has on cell 12"½x20". The two cell models are 16"x20" , 16"x25" , 20"x20" , 20"x25".
If your air cleaner manufactured by a different company and looks like our photos, then it is a Honeywell air cleaner. Honeywell also had an earlier F50F that was similar. The most noticeable difference between the F50F and the earlier F50E is the size of the powerbox. The F50F power box runs the full length from front to back. The F50E power box is half the length.
The F50A is identical to the F50E but without the W8600 and AFS.
Simple Power Supply Test Procedure
Troubleshooting Problem:
- The neon indicator light is not coming on
- The cells never spark
- Power box switch is ON
- Door is tight in place
- Blower is ON
- Verify Power is Present.
Verify 120 volt is present entering the power box. - Check for Shorted Cells
A shorted cell can prevent the indicator light from coming on. Remove both cells, with door back in place operate without cells. If the unit now appears OK with indicator light ON, then the cells have a problem. - Operate without cells
- Check cells for broken wires
- Check cells for bent plates
- Check with one cell at a time (align cell with contacts)
- Replace or Repair Power Box.
If the power box is plugged in to 120v and the Neon indicator still does not light without the cells, then the problem is in the power box
- Check the on/off switch, interlock door switch and wiring.
- Bypass the Air Flow Switch (AFS), The AFS is a sensor that signals the power supply when air flow is present. Disabling the AFS will simulate the ON state. Using a jumper wire, ground AFS resistor to the chassis, see AFS Tech Notes.
- Replace Air Flow Switch, if the Neon indicator lights and unit appears to work with the AFS disabled.
- Replace Power Supply, if the Neon indicator does not light with the AFS disabled and no cells to short the output.
- Neon problem, is not likely if test button does not spark. The neon lamp voltage should measure 125 vdc.
F50E F50A vs F50F F300 Difference
Choosing parts depends on the model and size. The F50A and F50E use the same chassis and were manufactured in 4 sizes.
The F50F and F300 have a revised chassis where the contacts for the cells are built-in to the power box. The F50F and F300 were manufactured in 5 sizes.
To determine your model, the photos show the difference is in the power box. The newer F50F-F300 have a full length power box because the contacts for the cells are built in to the power box.
The top-left photo shows the F50A and F50E. The F50A and F50E are identical except the F50E had been enhanced with an air flow sensor built in to the power box.
The bottom-left photo shows the F300 and F50F model. Note the F50F and F300 are identical except for paint color.
The F300E was manufactured with a plastic access door from 2000 through 2005. This door and all parts are interchangeable with all F50F and F300. The plastic door was the same as used in the F200E without RF (airwatch indicator). |
Evolution of the F50 Power Supply
The F50A was introduced in 1972 and has evolved in to the current F300. The same collector cells that were used in the F50A are still used in the F300. Thus variations of the current F300 power supply are used as the replacements for the prior F50 models.
In 1972 the F50A had an analog power supply as shown bottom-left. Then in 1987 the F50E was released, The F50E was the same as the F50A but with a new electronic power supply that offered two new optional features. The F50E offers an optional remote indicator and an air flow switch.
In 1993 the F50F was introduced with an all new chassis. The F50F now has all the electronics, from a 120v cord to the contacts for the cells built-in to the power box. Now a simple power box swap was a sure fix.
In 1998 the F50F Series 2 was released with a new optional LCD remote indicator that replaced the prior LED indicator. Also the internal power box wiring was improved with molex plug connectors. The connectors simplified manufacturing and power box repairs.
In 2000 the F300 was introduced that was identical to the F50F but the paint color was changed to blue. The F300 now has post filters that will also slide in to the F50F.
In 2012 Honeywell radically redesigned their power supply. They are very flexible and universal for multiple applications. Also, they seem to have better power surge protection along with ground loop frequency insulator. The new power supply design have the series one LED + AFS connection as well as the series two connections.
Prefilter and Postfilter Upgrade
Permatron manufacturers the prefilters for the brand name electronic air cleaners. Permatron also manufactures a premium line of electrostatic prefilters and activated carbon filters. Permatron has engineered filter upgrades for the F50A & F50E utilizing the latest advancements in filtration technology. | |
